Playing the victim

1:22 p.m. — 1500 block of West Granada Boulevard

Petit theft. Two women were arrested at a local supermarket after they stole miscellaneous items, and, when caught, one of them claimed it was in fact she who was being robbed by the store's loss prevention officer. Police report that the woman dropped her bag with the items and fled from the scene. She left her friend and flagged down a vehicle, whose driver later dropped her off at another store.

The woman's friend, who had an unpaid pair of sleep pants, pair of boxers, bottle of lemon juice, Maybelline makeup, an ELF foundation and a bottle of Mountain Dew in her possession, admitted to her intent to steal the items. Her friend's bag contained a slew of other items, including skinny jeans, a Glade air freshener, 30 scented gel pens and cleaning wipes. Both women were transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Taunting theft

9:36 p.m. — 200 block of North Nova Road

Petit theft. An Ormond Beach man was arrested after he stole two four-packs of High Octane Beer from a grocery store, telling the manager that he was "stealing this, I don't care what you say." Police connected this statement to what a suspect in a local pharmacy theft said, where the suspect told that manager that he was stealing an item, taunting the individual to call the cops.

Police reported the man was wearing the same color jeans and backpack from when he stole from the pharmacy. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Backyard office

Possession of new legend drug without prescription. Police arrested a 36-year-old Daytona Beach man seen dismounting his bike and walking into the backyard of a residence, where he rummaged through his backpack, took papers out of a folder and placed them into another bag. When the officer looked around a wall the man went behind, he noticed the man was kneeling down and appeared to have used a syringe just before the officer walked up to him.

The man then urinated, drank from a milk jug and ate some cereal as the officer observed him. After that, the man took the bag with the papers and tossed it under a shrub, at which point the officer made official contact. The man told police he had just left church and took "non-important" papers out of a folder.

When the officer asked to see his ID, he took a Ziploc bag out of his backpack, and the officer saw a white pill fall out. The man did not have a prescription for this medication, identified as Seroquel.
