Matanzas sprinter Jacob Miley is officially a Bulldog.
Miley, the Pirates' track star who won the Pepsi Florida Relays and set three school records at the FSU Relays in the spring, decided to transfer to crosstown rival Flagler Palm Coast following the departure of Matanzas track and cross country coach Danny Weed.
Weed, who coached the boys and girls teams, left the program on May 22 after he was made to only coach the girls teams. Matanzas then hired Tim Kane to coach the boys.
Miley transferred to a program led by nationally recognized coach David Halliday, who has coached four state title teams in boys track and field and cross country (three at FPC), is a four-time Florida Dairy Farmers FHSAA boys track coach of the year and was inducted into that organization’s Hall of Fame, and was selected to the Florida Track and Field Association Hall of Fame two years ago.
"I wanted to go where I fit in best," Miley said. "I'm really excited. I feel like I've been training extremely hard so far. And the coaching here has me very confident in what I can do this year."
