Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Welker and Cpl. Tarczewski brought K-9 Tag and K-9 Jax to visit the Stanford family on June 1, according to an FCSO Facebook post. The Stanford family is a Gold Star family interested in adding a dog to the family. The members of the K-9 Unit answered questions, provided information and allowed the family an opportunity to interact with K-9 Tag and K-9 Jax. Emma was presented with her own police K-9, K-9 Chase from “Paw Patrol.” Chase will hold the spot for Emma’s future four-legged friend.
A grey miniature schnauzer named “Dax" has gone missing in Cypress Knoll in the E-section. The dog was last seen on May 29. If seen, please call 264-3434 or 237-8182 and the owner will come to the sighting immediately.
To improve the health of local moms and their newborn babies, the Florida Department of Health in Flagler County is launching a new program called “Quit 4 Me,” according to a news release.
Robert Snyder, Health Department administrator, said free diapers, as much as a one-year supply, are the incentive to quit smoking.
The program supports pregnant women, regardless of their income level, by offering an opportunity to quit smoking in an empowering and encouraging environment. Enrollment and participation is free.
Expectant mothers who wish to be part of “Quit 4 Me” can attend one introductory class at the DOH-Flagler, 301 Dr. Carter Blvd., Bunnell, at 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, June 13. After that, they can report back to the DOH as needed to be tested for tobacco use.

Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Lou Miceli graduated from the sixth class of the Florida Sheriffs Association’s prestigious Commanders Academy, according to a news release. In addition to successfully completing this two-week training course, Commanders Academy Class Six also raised $27,850 for the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.
This past school year, Imagine School at Town Center implemented a new Kindergarten to eighth grade STEAM program. With the help of the $5,000 Lowe's Toolbox Education grant, ISTC's project Robotics Overhaul will be able to purchase EV3 Lego Mindstorm robots for the STEAM classes and clubs as well as a summer camp to help push the school into a state-of-the-art robotics program.
Flagler Schools Superintendent James Tager announced that Flagler County Public Schools has been recognized as a Silver level Florida Healthy School District, according to a news release.
Additionally, Flagler Schools also learned that Belle Terre Elementary School and Rymfire Elementary School both earned the 2018 National Health Schools Bronze Award as part of the Healthier Generation’s list of America’s Healthiest Schools program.

The Flagler County Art League awarded two scholarships to students: Jadyn Garcia from Flagler Palm Coast High School and Giada DeAngelis, from Matanzas High School, who will be going on to higher education in the visual arts. The scholarship recipients were invited to a picnic on Wednesday, May 23, at Herschel King Park. FCAL members, families and one of the scholarship winners enjoyed barbeque and fellowship.
