A shooting occurred in Bunnell on the night of Friday, June 1, that left a man dead, according to a news release by the Bunnell Police Department.
Officers responded to a call from North Bacher Street at 7:37 p.m.. Upon entering the residence, they found an unresponsive white male on the floor. Officers noticed blood coming from his nose and mouth and a large amount of blood on the floor around his head.
The man was later pronounced dead at the scene by Flagler County Fire Rescue. The victim’s name is being withheld pending confirmation of notification of his next of kin.
Tammy Renee Almond, 43, was the one who reported the shooting.
Almond told officers the man was her boyfriend and that they had an “on again off again” relationship, according to the charging affidavit.
According to the affidavit, she said they were house-sitting for someone and that she found a rifle sitting behind the front door. She said she picked it up and started manipulating it while standing at the front door. She then raised it up and cocked the hammer. When the hammer was cocked, her boyfriend was was walking through the kitchen. She yelled “bang” and pulled the trigger. The man dropped to the ground. She ran over to check on him and noticed the blood around his head. She reached into his front pocket, grabbed his cell phone and called 911.
Almond told deputies she pulled the trigger intentionally. She also added that she was familiar with firearms and that she “knew better.”
A manslaughter warrant was issued for her arrest. Almond is being held at the Flagler County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
