Citing his background as an attorney, his history of volunteer work, and his graduation from the Citizens Academy, the Palm Coast City Council voted June 5 to select Vincent Lyon as a temporary City Council member representing District 4, replacing Steve Nobile, who resigned in May to move to Tampa.

Lyon was selected with a 3-1 vote, with City Councilwoman Heidi Shipley voting for another application, Charles Johnson.

City Councilman Bob Cuff, a lawyer with a beard, jokingly reassured the audience that he was voting for Lyon based on his qualifications, and “not just because he has a beard and because he’s a lawyer.”

After he was sworn in, Lyon took his seat on the dais. In his closing comments of the night, he said, “I hope I live up to the expectation and the high goals that the city has.”

Lyon will serve in this role until a replacement is elected. As of now, two people have filed for election — John E. Tipton IV and Jose Eduardo Branquinho — with qualifying ending June 23.
