Criminal mischief. Police arrested a 19-year-old man from Lakeland for causing a local gas station an estimated $5,000 in damages to its grass and landscaping, accomplished by doing "donuts" around trees with his pickup truck and kicking up grass and mud to cover the pavement and nearby roadway. Some of the tire tracks appeared to be at least three inches deep, police reported.
The gas station clerks told police the man began his warpath on their landscape at around 8:30 p.m. that night. The man was the only person in the truck.

Battery on a LEO. A 24-year-old man was arrested after yelling phrases at police officers, including "you can't arrest me for singing," when police approached him following a suspicious person report. The man became violent with the officers, striking one in the shoulder with his fist, when they attempted to pull him out of the road and from the path of oncoming traffic.
The earlier reported call to police had alerted officers about a man roaming around in the area "singing or chanting" and periodically appearing to be yelling at someone nearby. During the altercation, the man told police to let the cars hit him and to come get him. He was able to slip out of the officers' grip and ran westbound before turning north on Halifax Drive.
He was apprehended in a resident's backyard and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Possession of narcotic paraphernalia. A 38-year-old woman was arrested after police found aluminum foil and straws with a white residue that she initially claimed to be old lip gloss. When officers challenged her on that, pointing out that the burn marks on the foil looked exactly like foil used to cook or smoke meth, she admitted that the straws were used for "dope" but were indeed old.
Her boyfriend, a convicted felon, was also arrested that night due to being in possession of firearm ammunition.
