One person was found dead after a structure fire in Port Orange.

At 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, Port Orange Police and firefighters from Port Orange, Daytona Beach Shores and South Daytona were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1002 4th St., according to Port Orange Fire and Rescue and the Port Orange Police Department.

First responders found heavy smoke and fire condition from the rear portion of the single-family house. The fire was quickly knocked down by crews after 35 minutes with an aggressive interior attack. During secondary searches, the body of a female was discovered in the bedroom, where the fire appeared to have originated. She was declared dead on the scene with assistance from the Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office. Her age and identity are still to be determined.

Fire investigators with Port Orange Fire and the State Fire Marshal's Office have begun an investigation. The home had extensive smoke and fire damage.

At this time, the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but the cause is undetermined and under investigation. An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted later today.

The Fire Marshal's Office is taking the lead on the investigation.
