Burglary victim chases suspect after cash box is stolen from van

The victim told police he fired a single shot from his gun into the air when the suspect fled.

On Saturday, June 16, at approximately 12:52 p.m., the Port Orange Police Department was dispatched to the area adjacent to the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant at 5539 S. Williamson Blvd., regarding a male firing a gun into the air while running through the parking lot, according to the Port Orange Police Department. 

Officers made contact with witnesses and the victim of a burglary to a vehicle and grand theft in the parking lot. The victim was loading products he was selling at the farmers market into the back of his van when someone opened his front passenger door and took his cash box. 

The victim gave chase on foot and fired a single shot into the air while in the parking lot. The suspect got into a nearby vehicle and fled the area, last seen headed north on S. Williamson Blvd. from the Pavilion at Port Orange. 

The witnesses described the vehicle as possibly being a white Nissan Altima with a partial FL tag number of 167.

POPD Detectives responded and took over the investigation.  The investigation is ongoing, and the name of the victim is not being released at this time.
