Members from three local Rotary Clubs fixed a 92-year-old widow's fence recently, a four-hour project that earned the approval of both the grateful widow and the city.
The participants were Tom Mondloch, Sean Krame and Alex Youngblood from the Downtown Ormond Beach chapter, Rich Cooper, Jim Cooksey and David Slick from the Ormond Beach chapter and Tony Uanino of the Daytona Beach West chapter. They fixed approximately 90 feet of the widow's six-foot-tall vinyl fence that was falling over due to the recent storms and improper installation. The project was coordinated through the Ormond Beach Police Liaison for Community Services.
The Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions Club brought back multiple awards after the recent Lions Club multiple district convention in Orlando, attended by more than 300 Lions.
Some of the recipients included Past President Lion Mary Yochum, who won the District 35-0
Millard Conklin Crusader for Lionism Award, designed to encourage participation of "grass root lions" in each district and club. She was also named District 35-0 Lion of the Year.
Current Club President Lion Bobbie Cheh won the Lions Club International President Dr. Naresh Aggarwal's President's Award for clubs with the best public relations and marketing. Cheh earned the award due to her efforts in spreading the word about Lionism through newspapers, websites, social media and more.
Lion Les Walter from the club's hearing board and Sunshine Chair were also recognized for their work last year with district awards. Lion Greg Evans was named first vice district governor elect and Cheh became district secretary elect, both for District 35-0.

Ormond Beach resident Meshia Tamara Bolden graduated with highest honors at the North Florida Community College's spring 2018 commencement ceremony.
She received a child care center operations certificate. NFCC said it is proud to recognize Bolden as a one of its graduates and applauds her accomplishment.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Mu Omega Chapter and A WISH, Inc. as its affiliate awarded nine $1,000 scholarships to Volusia County students in June.
The students were Christina Collins from Mainland High School, Assil Ei-Ghali from Spruce Creek High School, Payten Ford from Mainland High School, Amaya Gattis from Mainland High School, Adrian Rivers from Mainland High School, Andrea Rone from New Smyrna Beach High School, Sydney Snowden from Seabreeze High School, Kya Williams from Spruce Creek High School and O'Dregon Smith from Mainland High School.
