Matanzas High School unveiled an all new basketball court at the school's gym on Thursday, June 14. Construction of the new court began on May 30 and was officially completed a day prior to the presentation.
But the school isn't stopping there.
Pirates Athletic Director Zach Rigney said there are several more upgrades in the works, including: a wrap on the front and back of the football field's scoreboard, renovations to the press box, a windscreen around the entire stadium and atop both sets of bleachers, wrap doors to the weight room and the doors entering the gym, and also a new wrap inside the gym with new logos and a pirate ship.
Flagler Palm Coast football player Tallin Coates picked up his third scholarship offer on Sunday, June 17. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker picked up an offer from nearby school Stetson University, which is in DeLand. The Hatters are a Division I program that plays in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Flagler County Horseshoe Pitching Club had its weekly "Just for Fun" tournament on Thursday, June 14. The winners were Dave Wingard and Steve Hoffman. They both won 4-of-5 games played in the tournament. They were declared co-champions.
Embry-Riddle Summer Tennis Camps
When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 9-13 and July 16-20.
Cost: $240 (buffet lunch included).
Ages: 5-18
Where: Crotty Tennis Center Complex, located at 600 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Daytona Beach.
Details: The camp is for all levels, novice to advanced players. All 10U-level balls and mini nets available, swimming, all campers receive a camp t-shirt, water bottle and prizes. In addition, need-based scholarships are available, which can cover full tuition.
