One local race has already been decided: School Board member Andy Dance, who ran unopposed, will represents District 1.

But two more School Board seats, two City Council seats and two County Commission seats are up for election this year.

The City Council and School Board races are nonpartisan, while the County Commission races are partisan. Both County Commission seats up for election this year are held by Republicans — the entire board is Republican — who are each being challenged by one Republican candidate and one no-party-affiliation candidate.

The School Board District 4 seat, with only two candidates — incumbent Trevor Tucker and challenger Paul Anderson — will be decided in the August primary.

The City Council District 4 seat may also be decided in the August primary election, if one of the three candidates — John E. Tipton, Eddie Branquinho and Corinne Hermle — gets more than 50% of the vote in August.

If none on them do, then the top two vote-getters will move on to the November General Election.

The seat is the one that was until recently held by councilman Steven Nobile, who departed his post early to move to South Florida. It’s being held by interim councilman Vincent Lyon.

The School Board District 2 race between incumbent Janet McDonald and challengers John Fischer (a former School Board member) and Carl Jones may also be decided in August if one of the three candidates gets more than 50% of the vote in the primary.

The City Council District 2 race is between Jon Netts, himself a former Palm Coast mayor; and Jack Howell, a retired Marine colonel and founder of the Teens-In-Flight program, the organization that provides flight training to at-risk teens and to teenagers who have lost a parent or sibling serving in the active duty armed forces. The current District 2 councilwoman, Heidi Shipley, is not running for re-election. That race will be decided in November.

The County Commission District 4 seat held by Republican Nate McLaughlin faces a challenge from Republican Joe Mullins and no-party-affiliation candidate Jane Gentile-Youd.

The County Commission District 2 seat held by Republican Greg Hansen faces a challenge from Dennis McDonald, who is running as a no-party affiliation candidate; and from Abby Romaine, who is running as a Republican.
