A 49-year-old Deland man and a 40-year-old Palm Coast woman got into an argument June 28 "that escalated when (the woman) armed herself with a Samurai-style sword and was chasing (the man)," according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office report.
The incident happened at about 10:14 p.m. on Point of Woods Drive, where the woman lives.
Deputies arrived at the house after multiple neighbors heard a woman — later identified as Kathryn Hunter — shouting "that if anyone wanted to kill her, she had a gun, and otherwise screaming unintelligibly in the driveway," according to a Sheriff's Office case report.
When deputies arrived at the house, the victim was outside. He said he'd been involved in an argument with the woman in the driveway when she grabbed the sword and chased him.
A deputy used a loudspeaker to order Hunter out of the house. She emerged, hands over head and "visibly upset,"and then ran back inside, according to the report. She came out again and was "secured," a deputy wrote in the report.
She at first said she didn't remember what happened but then said that she and the man had both been drinking "and she did not want him to get in trouble," according to the report. She then said she did not have any guns or knives bigger than kitchen knives.
But several neighbors had seen her arm herself with a sword, and deputies found it inside the house.
Deputies arrested her and charged her with aggravated assault.
