With the goal of spreading love and encouragement, Pamela Krikke and her daughter Kate Eldean co-authored “Gracie Brave,” which came out Dec. 17, 2017.
Eldean was diagnosed with childhood depression at age 5. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in South Carolina.
“She’s always had a heart for people, as I’ve had,” Krikke said. “We always wanted to write a book together for a long time."
For about half the year, Krikke lives in Palm Coast. A book-signing party will be held at 2-5 p.m. on April 15 at Gingham Buttons craft and gift shop, located at 5 Utility Drive. In the meantime, Krikke is working to reach out to Flagler County schools for future reading days.
“What we’re trying to address here is not depression or anxiety,” Krikke said. "We just want to share that to give love and encouragement, that we may have difference, but with hope and love we really aren’t that different at all.”

Flagler Beach resident Nathan Utley released a new single called “A Million Songs” worldwide on March 12. The song is the first of a three series EP called the “Wave Series,” which will come out over this year and next. Chris Mitchell, a Palm Coast producer, produced the song.

Palm Coast will hold the Find Your Florida 2018 Photography Contest now through midnight May 31. Prizes will be awarded, and photographs submitted for the contest will be used by the city for marketing, promotional and public relations purposes.
The theme of the contest is “Find Your Florida in Palm Coast.” Winning photos will illustrate what makes Palm Coast special.
First, second and third place will be awarded, plus special awards for a new people-focused category “Palm Coasters” and for the best photo taken by a youth age 17 and younger.
For the first time, a concurrent photo contest on Instagram will be held, and prizes will be awarded for the best Instagram photos as well. To enter via Instagram, use the hashtag “PCpics2018” and include the photo location in the caption.
Photographers may submit up to 20 entries. It is free to enter. All submissions will become the property of the city of Palm Coast.

Buddy Taylor Middle School Assistant Principal Denise Harshbarger has been published on Edutopia.com in association with the George Lucas Educational Foundation, which is dedicated to transforming Kindergarten through 12th grade education.
Her article is titled “Building Students’ Noncognitive Skills.” It details “simple ways to encourage your students to develop academic mindset, metacognition, and social skills with your teaching.”

Rebecca Wight, a graduate of Matanzas High School and UCF, spoke at Palm Coast Community Church on March 11 as part of PC3’s lesson series called “Running to Win.” She was a national merit scholar and is now a civil engineer at Walt Disney World. Her presentation topic was “Winning as a Woman.”
Flagler Beach Police Lt. Lance Blanchette was sworn in as a Flagler County Deputy Sheriff on March 12 by Sheriff Rick Staly. Lt. Blanchette started his Flagler Beach career on March 5, after more than 25 years of dedicated service with the Daytona Beach Police Department.
Two Rymfire Elementary students, Caleb Hether and Lily Lisowski, each won a Scholastic basket of books by participating in the RES Tech Night Scavenger Hunt/Spring Book Fair chance drawing on March 1. The Tech Night Scavenger Hunt was put on by the RES Technology Committee members so students and parents could learn more about tech tools and resources available at school and home.
Local families with students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to Imagine School at Town Center’s Info Fair that will be held on Tuesday, March 20, in the ISTC cafeteria. Teachers and staff will be there for meet and greats, and the Champion Spirit Squad will perform. Pre-register for the 2018-2019 school year lottery by visiting imagineschooltowncenter.org.
Palm Coast resident Brianna Denson has been selected to attend the National Student Leadership Conference on Biotechnology. She is a junior at Florida Virtual School Full Time. The prestigious program selects outstanding high school students from around the world to participate based on academic excellence, extracurricular involvement and demonstrated leadership potential.
The total cost for Denson to attend the conference is $5,000. So far, she has raised $350 but is seeking donations from the community to reach her goal. Contact Denson at 871-7123.
