The journey on The Voice continues for Ormond Beach resident Kaleb Scharmahorn as he heads toward the Knockouts, now on Team Kelly.
Scharmahorn, who goes by stage name Kaleb Lee on the show, faced off against fellow country artist Pryor Baird during the show's battle rounds. The pair performed "Don't do me like that" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and, at the end of the battle, country artist Blake Shelton had to pick a winner as their coach. Shelton ultimately chose Baird, but Scharmahorn was stolen by pop singer Kelly Clarkson, who had her eye on him since the show's Blind Auditions.
Scharmahorn chose Shelton as his coach instead of Clarkson during the auditions, but now, he said he's stoked to be on her team. He said there's something special about her energy and spirit and he's looking forward to what's to come.
"At the back of my mind, I knew that Kelly was a fan, and so that definitely gave me some additional confidence going into the next round, knowing that I had someone else there — no matter what the outcome was, I had someone else there that liked what they saw," Scharmahorn said.
He said the Blind Auditions felt like he was "shaking off the rust" of not performing in public for almost 10 years, and going forward in the show, he's glad that he won't have to give up music for as long as he did. Performing again feels like getting back on a bike, Scharmahorn said.
"I'm still excited to get back into this groove that I was in years ago," he said. "I think I've got a little more rust to dust off but, I'm super excited. I'm motivated now, for sure."
The Voice's Knockouts will begin on April 2.
