On Sunday, April 19, the Knights of Columbus Star Council 8086, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church of Port Orange, held a Blue Mass to honor all First Responders and their families.
The mass recognized the traditional color worn by police, fire and EMS while honoring the men and women who protect and serve the community. The Knights invited active and retired staff from fire departments, police departments and emergency medical service units in Port Orange, South Daytona, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Dept of Law Enforcement and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
This year, first responders set up vehicle displays for residents to see firsthand some of the tools used and to provide information about their professions.
Representing VCSO were Captain Erik Eagan and Lt. Tom Tatum ,Motorcycle, Lt. Lou Marino, Bomb Truck, Sr. Deputy Mark Willetts, Marine- Boat, Sr. Deputy Eddie Hart, MRAP, and Deputy Cristal Bustamante, Red Crime Stopper Charger. From Port Orange Fire Company, Engine No. 75, Lt. Phil Callea, Firefighter/Paramedics Shawn Genovese and Jalin Knutelski.
“We were honored and considered it a great privilege to be a part of the Blue Mass and to represent our agency during an event where the community, parishioners, Our Lady of Hope and the Knights of Columbus showed their support and appreciation for law enforcement, firefighters and EMS personnel," Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.
Port Orange Camera Club celebrates seventh year
Now that the Port Orange Camera Club is celebrating its seventh year, the organization is welcoming new members. The club, which meets each month on the second and fourth Wednesday, allows members to display their work and join photo trips to learn about and capture images.
