Flagler County residents will be offered free scent tracking kits by Find-M’ Friends Inc., according to a news release by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
The scent tracking kits consist of a wipe and an airtight container and are easy to use. A person will rub the wipe along their neck, arms, back of their hands and their face. Then, he or she will put the wipe in the airtight container, labeled with the name of the person swabbed. The container should be stored in a safe, dry area out of direct sunlight.
If a county resident goes missing after completing a scent tracking kit, FCSO’s tracking K-9s or bloodhounds from Tomoka Correctional will have a pure sample of that person’s scent to track and can potentially have an easier time finding that missing person. Anyone wishing to obtain a scent tracking kit should stop by the Sheriff’s Operation Center, located at 901 East Moody Blvd. in Bunnell, or call 386-437-4116.
“The entire process takes only moments, and it could be the difference between life and death should you or a loved ever go missing,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a release. “From our experience, those prone to going missing are adults with dementia or Alzheimer’s, and searching for them takes a lot of resources, and this might allow us to find them faster. These scent tracking kits could save a life, and we are providing them to anyone who would like one free of charge.”
