A little rain won't keep the food trucks away. On Saturday, June 30, 40 food trucks will take their place at Riverwalk Park, 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave., to compete in the Food Truck Wars from noon to 7 p.m.
The competition is for five awards: casual cuisine, top food sales, ticket taker, delectable dessert and peoples choice award. There will also be live music from MISS INTENT, a kids area and beer garden.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit local charities.

City to hold community clean-up
The City of Port Orange, in collaboration with Volusia County Volunteers, a non-profit organization that helps improve the overall quality of life of Volusia County residents through events and fundraisers, will be hosting a community roadside clean-up event on Saturday, June 9 in the Commonwealth area. The event is part of the city’s ongoing anti-litter initiative, #KeepOurCityPretty.
The city is inviting volunteers to participate by gathering at the host location, Bushman Park, 4575 Spruce Creek Road, at 8:30 a.m. for check in, with the event starting at 9 a.m.
Waste Pro will have two dumpsters available for trash and recyclables. Supplies will be provided by Grainger, the city’s supplier of maintenance, repair and operating products.
At 11 a.m., volunteers will meet back at Buschman Park, where refreshments will be served. At that time, trash will be weighed and prizes will be awarded to the “Most Weight Collected,” the “Most Unique Find,” among others.

Relay for Life coming to Port Orange
On Saturday, June 9, hundreds of participants will join together at the annual Relay For Life of Port Orange at the new Riverwalk Park, 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave., on US1 to help the American Cancer Society attack cancer from every angle. The event starts at noon.
Funds raised help the American Cancer Society fight cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer – from developing breakthrough therapies to building supportive communities, from providing empowering resources to deploying activists to raise awareness.

Hydrating Heroes
Countryside Lakes is staying busy collecting cases of water for our firefighters in the hopes that the money they use to buy water can buy more important things like safety gear. Already, more than 220 cases have been collected for the month of May beating last year's 200 cases.
The goal is to reach 2,000 water bottles. A final drive Rain or Shine, Hydrate our Heroes Fun Day drive will be held on Saturday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a petting zoo, magician, face painting and art show. Amy Alysia and the Soul Operation will be on stage and picnic lunch will be provided for anyone who brings a case of water.

Dog Park on Ice will return to the International Skateway
The Halifax Humane Society's Dog Park on Ice – Christmas in July event is returning to the Daytona International Skateway at the Sunshine Mall, 2400 S Ridgewood Ave. Owners and their dogs can get a break from the heat and slide on the ice for several hours to cool down and have fun with other pet lovers.
Small dogs will have the arena at 6 p.m. and large dogs can be on the ice at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11. On-site registration begins at 5:30 p.m.

Port Orange library plans youth art show
The Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle, is having a summer art show for children to celebrate how libraries and art rock.
Children in fifth grade and under are invited to create an image that expresses how “Libraries Rock” on an 8.5 inch by 11 inch sheet of paper. No other sizes will be accepted. Entry forms are available at the children’s desk. Each child may submit one entry. Artwork should be turned in at the children’s desk between Monday, May 28 and Saturday, June 9.
Library staff will randomly select 22 images to go on display in the children’s room from Wednesday, June 13 through Friday, Aug. 3. The rest of the images will be displayed in a binder in the children’s room.

18th Annual Daytona Beach Juneteenth Celebration to commemorate the end of slavery
The Juneteenth Festival Committee will host the 18th annual Juneteenth Celebration during the week of Saturday, June 16. The historical celebration commemorates the end of slavery in 1865. It was two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation that the slaves living in Galveston, Texas, finally received the announcement that slavery had ended.
The festival will be held at the Cypress Park, 925 George Engram Blvd., and will include a day of music, live entertainment, food, educational displays, recreational activities, fashion shows, a petting zoo, bungee jump and rock climb. Approximately 6,000 people from within and around the community are expected to participate in the festival.

The Stage at Thank You Five to present “A Doll’s House, Part 2”
During June, "A Doll's House, Part 2," will be shown at the Thank You Five Theater, 4606 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Unit 2N.
The production follows Nora Helmer in Henrik Ibsen's landmark 1879 drama as she struggles to find out who she was. The sequel is set 15 years later but was written almost 140 years after the original.

Quarters for a Cause
Residents can get some shopping done while raising money for Concerned Citizens for Animal Welfare of Volusia County at the Quarters for a Cause event on Saturday, June 2, at VFW Post 3282, 5810 S, Williamson Blvd.
Each item being auctioned off has a retail value of $20 or more. Pet food donations will also be accepted.
