Easterseals of Northeast Central Florida and The NASCAR Foundation hosted the Over The Edge at One Daytona fundraiser from Nov. 2-3, where officials, community members and businesses rappelled over the edge of the International Motorsports Center, to raise awareness and help with health care for local children with special needs.
Volusia County Councilwoman Heather Post and Florida Rep. Tom Leek were two of the 140 people who rappelled down the eight-story building on Friday, Nov. 2. According to the fundraiser's website, over $128,000 was raised via 810 donations by 625 donors. All money raised was to be shared equally between both Easterseals and The NASCAR Foundation.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 267 is holding its 10th-annual Veterans Day yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11. All proceeds will benefit local veterans.
The yard sale will feature a variety of household items for sale, like microwaves, linens and tools. The Unit invites all to come by and say hello.Tables are available to rent for $10. Donations will also be accepted at the Post.
The recently-formed Daytona Writers Guild is hosting its first Books, Art and Music Fest at the Museum of Arts and Sciences on Nov. 17, from 6 to 9 p.m., where it will feature songwriters, authors and poets both local and national.
Volusia County Poet David Axelrod will be the major honoree of the evening. He has been published in hundreds of magazines and won numerous awards for his work, according to a press release. The celebration will end with a meet-and-greet with the attending writers. Proceeds will benefit the Volusia Literacy Council for GED applicants.
Tickets for the event cost $30, which includes a dinner and show. The museum is located at 352 S. Nova Road. Call Lois Gerber at 852-1444.
