Paige Areizaga, whose immediate family lives in Palm Coast, has been named to the U.S. synchronized swimming team for the second year in a row. The 17-year-old trains full time in Moraga, California, while also attending iFlagler online.
“It was important to her to finish her school in her hometown and FPCHS made this possible for her,” Paige’s mother, Stephanie Sanchez, said in an email.
This last appointment is through 2020. as this is the senior team that is aimed to try to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo representing USA, Sanchez added.
Hitting the 10th anniversary of an event is a big deal and for shoppers, the 2018 Super Scenic Garage Sale is going to be more than a chance to find a great bargain, it’s a chance to explore four Florida Scenic Highways spanning five counties along Florida’s east coast on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Organized by the Friends of A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway as the annual 72-mile sale, this year’s event is double the length, coming in at 150 miles of shopping. Starting in Fernandina Beach and ending in Ponce Inlet, the Friends of A1A wanted to collaborate with fellow Florida Scenic Highways to make the 10th annual event one to remember.
A list of community sites will be posted at http://www.scenica1a.org on Nov. 16 for shoppers to plan their trip. In addition to shopping, travelers are encouraged to download the free mobi tour app hosted by TravelStorys in the app store and enjoy the historic tour along the A1A Scenic Byway as they travel between shopping sites. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The 18th-annual Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic was held Nov. 3-4 in Flagler Beach. Local favorite, 18-year-old Flagler Beach resident Robbie McCormick placed first in Junior Pro and third in Men's Pro.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, the Palm Coast Fire Department rededicated its lobby to members and family who served in the military, according to a news release. The pictures that will be adorned on the wall in the future will feature the faces of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces before joining the Palm Coast Fire Department.
The lobby’s display will be known as “Our Common Valor.” Twenty-eight photos were presented to celebrate the department’s employees who are veterans.
Registrations are starting to arrive for the 36th-annual Palm Coast Holiday Boat Parade, according to a news release. Once again under the stewardship of the Palm Coast Yacht Club, the community-wide parade is expected to exceed last year’s record of over 40 brightly lit and decorated boats.
Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland will serve as the parade’s grand marshal. KOOL 100.9 FM, with more than 28,500 listeners in Flagler, St. Johns, and Volusia Counties, will present live coverage of the parade on Dec. 15.
Registration is now open to all. For registration forms, boat captains should contact parade Cpt. Robert Ulis at 283-5166 or via email at [email protected]. Forms are also available online at https://palmcoastyachtclub.com, at West Marine at Island Walk or at the Palm Coast Marina. Boats must be decorated and registered to participate. There are no entry fees. Rain date is set for Dec. 16. Membership in the Club is not required to participate.
The Palm Coast Lions Club announced the club’s new Board of Directors and Slate of Officers, according to a news release. The installation banquet was held at the Columbian Club (formerly Knights of Columbus). The club’s secretary Ken Crowley installed the officers.
The Palm Coast Lions Slate of Officers and Directors for the 2018-2019 Lion Year are: Joe Langello – President and Treasurer, Stan Niedzwiecki – First Vice President, Ken Crowley – Secretary, Ralph Johnan – Tail Twister, Don Green/Rev. Gerry Laird – Chaplain, Wayne Gile – Immediate Past President, Andy Dodzik, Shel Reichard and Janet Fonseca – One Year Director, and Gerry Laird and Betsy Ryan – Two Year Director. The Membership Committee consists of Chair Wayne Gile and member Mike Ryan.
Langello's goal as president is to increase membership by 10 new members each year and to bring in some younger members. The club plans to stay involved in the community with Paws for Patriots, White Cane Days, providing free eye exams and eyeglasses to those in need.
