Pump up the volume

Petit theft. While waiting in line at a restaurant drive-thru, a 32-year-old Ormond Beach man became aggravated by the car behind him. The driver was playing loud music and it was causing the man trouble while ordering. His girlfriend told police that the man told the driver to lower the volume, but the driver chose to turn it up louder.

The man then got out of his car and began arguing with the driver. He told police the driver responded to him with a crude remark, and that prompted him to reach into the driver's car and take his phone to try to get him to stop playing music.

He returned the phone once the driver exited the car. The man was arrested on unarmed burglary and petit theft charges. He was taken to jail

Taking the wheel

2:24 p.m. — 300 block of West Granada Boulevard

Battery touch. Police arrested a 38-year-old Cleveland man after he struck his girlfriend of four years over an argument about the weather, according to a report. The pair was on their way to the airport shortly after eating a meal at a local restaurant.

Police reported that the woman refused to respond to the man's weather arguments, which "pissed him off" and led him to start saying "kill me now." She told officers he then grabbed her arms while she was driving to try to pull at the steering wheel. When she wouldn't let go, she said he began to hit her forearms.

She did not have any visible wounds and declined medical attention. Police noted that at some point in the altercation, the man smashed a margarita glass in the front seat. The man was transported to the jail, and was placed under suicidal observation due to his statements.
