For the love of softball and the joy of doing a good deed, about 200 people gathered at the Flagler County Recreation Area, located at 150 Sawgrass Road, Bunnell, for a Toys for Tots softball tournament.
The third-annual event was held the morning of Sunday, Nov. 25. Eleven teams participated, with each player bringing an unwrapped toy for the local chapter of the national nonprofit, said Tommy August, event organizer.
August, a Palm Coast resident, said that the tournament has grown from seven teams, to nine teams, to 11 teams, over the last three years.
"We travel to play in tournaments, and I spread the word that we're doing this for Toys for Tots," he said. "Fortunately, we had a lot of teams come out, so it's great."
The toys will be dropped off at a local church in coordination with Toys with Tots.
August said that next year, they hope to register the tournament earlier so that U.S. Marines can make an appearance as part of the Toys for Toys festivities.
