Repairs to the Cassen Park fishing pier in Ormond Beach are now underway, and the city expects them to run through next April.

According to a city press release, the contractor, Brothers' Construction Inc., has mobilized a barge with a crane set to perform the needed repairs, which include pile driving and deck repairs. Hurricane Irma damaged the fishing pier, demolishing about 6,600 square feet of decking and framing.

The project was bid out at $759,125, with FEMA funds covering 75%. State grants will cover another 12.5% of the cost, with the city footing the rest of the bill with its general fund balance. The city advises residents and visitors use caution when boating in the pier's vicinity.
