The members of the Palm Coast Flagler County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. hosted its first golf tournament on Monday, Nov. 19, at the Grand Haven golf course. Sixty golfers played 18 holes of golf, followed by lunch, raffle, prizes and auction. Over 50 sponsors and donors supported this memorable event. The event raised $5,500 for the causes the nonprofit supports.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization that provide services and programs to promote human welfare. The chapter is very involved in providing programs and workshops addressing education, health, and economic issues and offering scholarships. Funds generated from this tournament will be used to help with expenses that support the programs.
The Old Kings Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recognized Flagler Palm Coast High School senior Catie Jones as the 2018 DAR Good Citizen, according to a press release.
FPCHS teachers were asked to submit nominations of seniors that exemplified the good citizen characteristics of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in October. Eighteen different names were submitted and presented for selection at the Oct. 24 Class of 2018 senior meeting. Students casted their votes, and Jones won.
The awarded was presented to Jones on Nov. 27. Committee Chairmen Libby Broadhurst — a DAR Good Citizen recipient over 40 years ago, and an FPC teacher in the 80s and 90s — explained that, "the DAR Good Citizen award has been given for 80 years to perpetuate memory and spirit in the areas of history, educations and patriotism.”
Palm Coast Parks and Recreation is starting a new scholarship program to reimburse eligible seniors, ages 62 and up, for meals served as part of various Parks and Rec programs, according to a news release.
The application period for the new meals scholarship program will begin Saturday, Dec. 1, and remain open through Jan. 15. Applications can be obtained from the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway NE, and should be returned there after completed.
Scholarship recipients will need to register for the programs in advance and must pay at time of registration, but will be reimbursed for the meals later. The scholarships are not available to use for field trips, trips and tours, or for athletic leagues. This is a program funded by the Community Development Block Grant program.

Rotary District 6970’s Governor Jeanette Loftus awarded Casey Ryan the 2018/2019 Rising Star award at the Oct. 30 Rotary Club of Flagler County weekly meeting.
Ryan, a new member of the Rotary Club of Flagler County, was selected to receive this award for her club participation, bringing eight prospective new members to the club, as well as being the membership sponsor for six new members. In her short term as a rotarian, Ryan has contributed to the Rotary Foundation, volunteered on club committees and participated in club service and social events.
November marked the launch of the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties 2019-21 Community Impact funding application process. The application to become a funded partner includes a letter of intent and a request for proposals. Nonprofit organizations serving Flagler and/or Volusia counties in the areas of education, financial stability and/or health are invited to submit a letter of intent to apply for funding.
Visit uwvfc.communityforce.com. All letters of intent must be submitted by 5 p.m. Dec. 21. United Way’s volunteer Community Impact Cabinet will review all letters of intent, and qualified organizations will be invited to submit proposals for funding in January.
The United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties is committed to improving the community through partnerships that address specific challenges relevant to Flagler and Volusia counties and looks forward to beginning the next Community Impact funding cycle in 2019.
