Family Renew Community successfully held its 29th-annual ice cream social and silent auction to help families out of homelessness.
The social took place on Sunday, Sept. 23 at the St. James Episcopal Church in Ormond Beach. Visit familyrenew.org or call 239-0861 for more information on Family Renew.
The Ormond Beach Lions Club recognized Seabreeze High School student Shane Brownrigg as its student-athlete of the month for September.
Brownrigg serves as the president of student government at SHS, captain of the cross-country team and MVP of the cross-country and track teams. He also helps coach the Daytona Express Track Club and works as an athletic trainer at football games. Outside of sports, Brownrigg is a member of the National Honor Society and has a 3.8 GPA.
He wishes to become a pilot, ideally for Delta Airlines, and is considering attending either Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Auburn University or Ohio State University.
Members of the Rotary Club of Downtown Ormond Beach helped to fill bags of foods for local elementary students at Provision Packs Pantry in Ormond Beach.
Provision Packs aims to help families living in poverty and homelessness by providing well-balanced nutritional food on the weekends and extended breaks during the school year. The packs are distributed to children in need at their respective schools.

Ormond Beach violinist Paulo Torres will be at the Ormond Beach Regional Library at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22 to present "Healing through Music."
Torres' performance will highlight the power of music and its ability to improve physical and emotional healing. Torres is the music minister at Florida Hospital Memorial and Florida Hospital Flagler.

The Halifax River Yacht Club is seeking sponsorship donations for its annual Christmas Boat Parade on Dec. 1.
This year, the parade will help support the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, a nonprofit organization that financially helps cancer patients with non-medical living expenses such as rent, car payments, utility bills and mortgages.
