Flagler Palm Coast's girls volleyball team won one game the entire 2017 season under then-head coach Ashlee Dietrich, including going 0-6 in district play.
But despite the growing pains, the Bulldogs' new head coach Trent Schake, a longtime assistant coach at FPC, has the Bulldogs on the right track in his first season at the helm.
With three games left in the regular season, the Bulldogs are up to six wins on the year.
The key going forward for Schake and co. is to learn from the best.
Although the Bulldogs were swept by powerhouse Spruce Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Spruce Creek High School, the Bulldogs were able to learn from their powerful opponent.
"They're a fast, well-organized team," Schake said of the Hawks. "They play a very controlled game, and it's the kind of game we want to learn to play. It's great to play them, and it's great to learn from them."
In addition, Schake added that this year's team has shown a lot more unity than in years past.
"It's definitely showing on the court," he said.
