A Puppy Pub Crawl, hosted by the social group Dog Friendly Flagler, which took place throughout Flagler County Sept. 14 to 23, raised close to $2,760, according to a news release. The event was a fundraiser to help support Flagler Technical Institute in furthering adult education.
Many local area businesses banded together to support the event, including 15 bars and restaurants that donated a free beverage and discounts, as well as several other businesses that offered benefits to individuals who purchased a “Puppy Pub Crawl Passport.” The event culminated in a finale party, which took place on Saturday, Sept. 22, at European Village.
Longtime Palm Coast Fire Chief Michael C. Beadle retired and Deputy Chief Gerard “Jerry” Forte was sworn in as the city’s fire chief at a Transfer of Command ceremony at Fire Station 25 on Thursday, Sept. 23.
Chief Forte has served as Palm Coast Fire Department’s deputy chief for nine years, starting as a volunteer firefighter in 1990 and becoming a career member as a firefighter/EMT in 1992. He rose through the ranks and began serving as Deputy Fire Chief in 2009.
Imagine School at Town Center participated in the annual statewide initiative “Dads Take Your Child to School Day” on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Dads and other male figures brought their children to school where they posed for selfies, signed the pledge, received a doughnut as well as a “Daddy Success Toolkit” and were able to walk their students to class. The school obtained 185 signatures from dads pledging to stay involved and instrumental in their child’s education.
Christmas Come True’s third-annual Mezzaluna Golf Tournament was held on Monday, Sept. 17 at Hammock Beach Resort’s Conservatory Course. Shotgun start was at noon, with awards dinner at Mezzaluna Pizzeria in European Village at 6 p.m. The nonprofit’s founder, Nadine King, said 144 players stepped up to the green for the tournament, with 36 hole sponsors for the event. Proceeds go to Christmas Come True, which provides full Christmas dinners and toys to families in the area. Visit http://www.christmascometrue.org.

Last year, the Rotary Club of Flagler County Past President Tracy Loftus introduced corporate memberships, an idea other clubs in other areas have implemented. It allows for up to three members under the corporate business membership and has been a positive addition to increasing membership and having corporate support within the club. Cindy Evans introduced Rotary Means Business in the club this year. The club currently has 85 active and honorary members and also has applications waiting for approval by membership for 10 new members, some of whom will be corporate members.
Teens-In-Flight is seeking passionate flight students to join its unique program that focuses on teenagers who have PTSD as a result of losing a parent or sibling while they were serving on active duty in the armed forces. The nonprofit also works with teens at risk on a case-by-case basis. Prospective students must be 15 years of age or older and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to qualify. The nonprofit will be starting an evening class on Oct. 15, which will also include adults. Most of the students in that class will be assessed $495 fee for the schooling, but qualified teens will not, said Teens-in-Flight CEO/President Jack Howell.
