College rivalries

11:40 p.m. — First block of West Granada Boulevard

Battery touch/strike. A fight over college football opinions broke out at a local bar, police report. Two of the men involved in the altercation had left the scene before police could get there.

However, the 30-year-old victim stayed behind and informed officers that he had been paying his tab when one of them men came up behind him and punched him in the mouth. Then, a second man joined in the attack, he told officers, who reported the victim was bleeding from his mouth and had small lacerations on his lips. 

The victim told police that the college argument had started at a previous restaurant that night and that he knew the two men from high school. No arrests were made. 

Oct. 2

It's all fun and games until...

2:43 a.m. — 400 block of North Nova Road

Possession of marijuana. Police interrupted a game of "man hunt" between four men who were playing inside a local park. Officers had received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the area. 

While at the scene, police asked to search the car, which belonged to one of the four guys. He consented, and during the search, a small portion of a marijuana joint was discovered. One of the officers then searched the four men, and one of them was found to have a joint containing about 1 gram of marijuana.

The 20-year-old man was given a notice to appear.

Dine and dash

11:20 a.m. — 800 block of South Atlantic Avenue

Obtain food with intent to defraud. Police arrested a 56-year-old Daytona Beach man who walked out on his restaurant bill of over $30 at a local beachside restaurant. The man also had an open warrant out of Volusia County for domestic battery.

According to the restaurant server, the man walked out the back entrance while she was inside. Surveillance showed him entering his vehicle and driving off. Police made contact with the man later that night, who denied ever being at the restaurant even though he still wore the same outfit as seen in the surveillance video.

The man told police that he was home all day but later changed his story to say he went by a restaurant near the one in question when he was trying to find stuff for his wedding. Police report his significant other then asked him what restaurant he was talking about, and the man did not reply. He was then taken to jail.
