Palm Coast Community Church celebrated its "Incredible" families with a Super Family Fun Day on Sunday, Oct. 21.
For the last six weeks leading up to the superhero-themed event, a sermon series focusing on families included movie clips from Pixar Animation Studios' "The Incredibles" to highlight points for the adult and preschool lessons.
The church, known as "PC3," incorporated its preschool, which they've nicknamed "PC4," for a superhero-themed "PC7 event," said missions director Mary Benvenuto.
"One of the most powerful lessons I think that we learned was how to submit to one another. In other words, how can I leverage who I am and what I have to help you?" she said.
Instead of having services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday, PC3 invited everyone to the pack the 9 a.m. service as one big family, then head outside to enjoy free hot dogs, bounce houses, a superhero photo spot and more.
It's always about trying to figure out how to invite people to be here and be familiar to eliminate some barriers to coming to church," Benvenuto said. "The welcome mat to our church is getting further and further out into the parking lot, so to speak, because we just want to break down some barriers."
The public was welcome to attend. Benvenuto said the annual event has a new theme each year, but this superhero theme also served as a prequel to the spring's Superhero 5K, which will be held with the city of Palm Coast.
"We're constantly trying to think about how we can engage with families," she said. "We're reaching families with young children. That's a hard target group because they're always busy, there are so many things going on. So, we know if we have different events like this, people will come, and they'll enjoy it, and it'll be a positive response to what we do as a church and who we are as a church."
