The 77-foot AMG shrimping boat will soon be taken off Ormond Beach's shore, as salvage operations will begin Saturday, Oct. 27.
The AMG boat, washed on the beach near the Cardinal Drive beach approach on Oct. 15. Now, 10 days after it beached, the Coast Guard announced in a press release that it has accepted salvage plan for the beached vessel. Until its removal, which was delayed due to its proximity to the Nathan F. Cobb wreckage, the vessel will continue to be monitored for pollution and hull integrity.
The press release further stated that officials are asking beachgoers to maintain "a safe distance" from the vessel; however, the ship has been somewhat of an attraction to locals and tourists alike, as they have congregated daily on the beach to snap photos next to it.
The Coast Guard has not released the vessel's cause for washing ashore. The salvage operations are pending weather and other conditions.
Update: As of 4:52 p.m, Sunday, Volusia County Beach Safety said the AMG was still on the beach, and that no time-line for its removal had been established.
