After talking about it for years, Tim Goeman and his wife, Hope, have opened their own business, Southern Auto Source, an automobile repair shop at 525 Parque Drive, Ormond Beach.

It’s not far from where Goeman grew up and learned auto mechanics in the family garage.

“I was born and raised on Hand Avenue,” Goeman said.

Hope Goeman said it’s a little nerve-wracking to start a business.

“We’re a young family so we decided to take the plunge,” she said.

Goeman, who worked at local garages for nearly 20 years, said he helped to restore old cars and did repair work in his spare time and the business increased to the point where he can go full time on his own.

He wants to make sure he does not keep customers waiting for their car.

“I only schedule two or three cars a day,” he said.

Helping out at the shop is Tim Goeman’s dad, Walt, who was chief mechanic for the city of South Daytona for many years. The son learned his trade by helping his dad restore old cars in the family garage, starting when he was five years old.

“I grew up in it,” Tim Goeman said.

Walt Goeman now helps out when needed.

“I watch him,” he said with a laugh. “I’m retired and this gives me something to do.”,

They want to be a friendly, neighborhood garage, where business is done with a handshake.

Nursing skill, compassion recognized

Heather Campochiaro and Tiffany Green, nurses at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, earned DAISY awards on Aug. 23 for their skill and compassion.

Campochiaro is a nurse on the pediatric unit. A parent of a patient nominated her, saying, "My daughter's face would light up every time she entered the room."

A patient said Green, who is a nurse on the medical care unit, held her hand during the night. "She never made me feel like a number," the patient said.
