An Ormond Beach resident's five-year-old tortoise was stolen on Sunday afternoon from her residence by people in a white SUV, and her owner is asking the community to help find her.
Melanie Cranford's African Sulcata tortoise, named Picabo, broke free from her pen and was by the street when she was taken at approximately 5:05 p.m. Cranford said she was headed out the door when Picabo was stolen. Her home's security footage showed the white Kia SUV driving by her house multiple times before the incident.
“I just want her back," Cranford said.
Cranford said she had taken notice of them, but she didn't realize they were stalking her tortoise. Picabo was given to her by her fiancé for Christmas five years ago, and Cranford said she is part of her family.
She has reported the incident to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, who told her they will be on the lookout for the vehicle.
Cranford promises not to seek legal action or press charges if Picabo is returned home safely. If you have any information on the incident, she asks that you call or text 868-8374.
