Beloved pet tortoise returned to Ormond Beach owners

Picabo is back home safely.

After being missing since Sunday afternoon, beloved pet tortoise Picabo was returned home safely on Tuesday.

According to an update by owner Melanie Cranford on the Flagler and Volusia County Lost Dogs Facebook page, five-year-old Picabo was returned less than an hour after her story aired on the local news. She said the lady who took him was "a good Samaritan with the best of intentions" and that she was happy to bring Picabo back where he belongs.

"I'm so grateful she turned out to be an honest person and not my worst fears. I was so wrong in my assumptions," Cranford said on the Facebook post. "I'm so thankful to her and to everyone who banded together to get Picabo home."

Picabo was picked up shortly after breaking free from her pen around 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.
