Mainland’s Rodney Rhoden knows where he’s going to be playing college basketball in 2019-20. The Buccaneers’ 2019 forward announced his commitment to Long Beach State on Wednesday, Sept. 19, via Twitter.
“Blessed to say that I’ve committed to Long Beach State!” he tweeted. “Thanks to all the coaches and everyone who [helped] me on this journey to get to this point.”
The 49ers are a Division I team that plays in the Big West conference.
At 6-foot-5, Rhoden is an explosive athlete and playmaker. He has an ability to shoot from 3 and mid-range and is also an exceptional passer.
He was also integral in a turnaround season for the Buccaneers in 2017-18, helping lead the team to a 21-8 record and a trip to the Class 7A regional final.
This upcoming season, Rhoden will play alongside fellow forward Johnny Brown (2019), guard Da’Von Robinson (2019), guard Taron Keith (2020) and transfer guard Jordan Sears (2020).
