The Bulldogs improved to 4-1 on the season with a 45-20 beat down of Palatka on the night of Friday, Sept. 21, at Palatka High School.
Despite four turnovers (Flagler Palm Coast also had a fifth turnover after fumbling on a punt return), Friday night marked the most explosive offensive performance for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs had over 200 yards passing for the first time this season and accumulated over 300 yards rushing.
It was third time FPC has scored over 40 points in the game, as well as the second game in a row after the Bulldogs put up 47 points against St. Augustine. FPC is averaging 35 points per game this season.
Bulldogs quarterback Donovan Montoyo scrambled for a short run to put FPC on the board in the first quarter. FPC led 21-7 at halftime and 31-13 by the end of the third quarter.
Deshaun Hugee, who transferred from Seabreeze during the summer, had arguably his best performance in a Bulldogs uniform. He torched Palatka's defense to the tune of 125 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Junior running back Ty Jenkins also rushed for 101 yards on 13 carries and 93 receiving yards on 4 catches.
Defensively, the Bulldogs forced Palatka to turn the ball over four times, including a sack by FPC defensive back Dennis Shorter that caused Palatka's quarterback to fumble.
"We gave up a couple big plays, but we can't complain too much," Bulldogs coach Travis Roland said. "I was pretty satisfied."
