In 2012, Reitzel and three other teenagers were arrested for robbing and beating a Chinese food delivery man. They ordered about $60 worth of food, and when the delivery man arrived, they refused to pay and beat him up, according to a police report.

In 2014, Retizel was arrested for homicide and, as a result, violating his probation for the robbery.

Reitzel was at his mother's home drinking and listening to music with friends when he heard an argument between his mother, Donna Reitzel, and her boyfriend, William F. Brooks Jr., according to the report.

When Dylan went to check on what was happening, Donna told him Brooks hit her, which led to a fight between the two men. Dylan went outside to grab a knife from Brooks' car and returned inside to continue fighting. This led to Dylan stabbing Brooks in the abdomen. Brooks died that night.

Reitzel originally faced life in prison for first-degree murder.
