The Flagler County Sheriff's Office is searching for Rickey Wheeler, a 17-year-old who was reported missing by his mother on Friday, Sept. 21, according to an FCSO news release.
Wheeler is considered endangered: He has limited verbal skills and is diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, and may not be taking his medication, according to the news release. He left his home without a cell phone, medication or bankcard.
He was last seen at Madison Green Apartments in Palm Coast, where deputies searched the evening of Sept. 23. They have been searching near Epic Theatres and the Town Center area Sept. 24, and have established a mobile command post there.
Deputies on bike patrol and members of the Emergency Response Team are searching the area, and the county's FireFlight emergency services helicopter and a blood hound from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the search.
Deputies also worked throughout the weekend searching and passing out flyers to businesses along the State Road 100 corridor. The FCSO is asking all business and property owners in that area to check their property: Check all buildings locked and unlocked, and backyards or wooded areas that you may not frequent. The teen could be located in one of these areas.
Wheeler is a black 17-year-old, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 105 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing camouflage Army shorts, green Nike sneakers and a gray shirt with blue stripes.
“With the public’s assistance getting the word out and being aware you are hopeful you can help us locate him and bring him home so that he can get the needed medication and be safe,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in the news release.
Wheeler was last seen by his mother on Friday, Sept. 21. She reported him missing just after 5 p.m. because he had never been gone this long before, and she was concerned for his safety. The last time he disappeared deputies located him within two hours on Belle Terre.
