Flagler Palm Coast High School art teacher Angela Biggs nominated junior Nicholas Gerry to be the Student Artist of the Month for April.
He said while his interest in photography only started about two years ago, he find’s constant inspiration in nature.
“There’s something about nature that inspires me to want to capture its natural beauty and share it,” Gerry said.
Biggs said she has seen his work grown “leaps and bounds” this year.
“Nick pays attention to the subtleties in color and light, which helps him produce strong compositions,” she said.
Seven veterans were inducted into the Flagler American Legion Post 115 at its general meeting Monday, April 8, at the Veterans of Foregin Wars Post 8696 in Palm Coast.
Post Commander David Hammond led the initiation.
The new members are: Armand Dupuis, Tanya Whitaker, Ron Dean, John O'Meally, Mike Greene, John Diaz and Thomas Mahan.
Members from 23 branches of the American Association of University Women, including the Flagler County chapter, attended the annual American Association of University Women Florida Leadership Conference recently.
With the stated theme, “All Roads Lead to Equity,” the featured speakers and workshops provided members opportunities to explore education, economic security and leadership for women. Members of AAUW Flagler: Co-President Theresa Owen, publicity/social media representative Kimble Medley, Co-President Susan Baird, Co-President elect Martha Butler shared secrets of their experiences coordinating media messaging across an array of platforms.
The 8th-annual Pellicer Creek Raid Civil War Reenactment took place April 6 and 7, at the Florida Agricultural Museum, 7900 Old Kings Road N. There was a Civil War Raid, Ladies’ Tea, Milton Ball and church service for the public to enjoy.
Palm Coast Parks and Recreation is offering a new adaptive recreation programs for spring: Chair Zumba. This is the first time Parks and Rec has hosted adaptive sports, recreation and social programs, which are offered to youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. These programs are designed for individuals who can function independently while in a group setting with the supervision of staff.
Chair Zumba is a new adaptive recreation program that provides easy movements to increase strength and flexibility in your arms, legs and core muscles. This will be offered 9-9:45 a.m. Friday, April 12, for ages 13 and up at the Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool classroom, 339 Parkview Drive. Visit parksandrec.fun/wellness to register.
The Flagler Sportfishing Club will host its 23rd-annual Spring Classic on April 27. Registration and a silent auction will be Friday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m. at Beach Front Grille, located at 2444 S. Ocean Shore Blvd. Over 120 anglers will be vying for over $8,000 in cash prizes and merchandise for the tournament April 27. There is a mandatory captain’s meeting 7 p.m. April 26. The weigh-in will be held at Hidden Treasure, 820 Moody Lane, Flagler Beach on 3-4:30 p.m. April 27, the day of the tournament. Proceeds benefit Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 86. $65 entry fee; $20 for age 12 and under. Celebrate Earth Day by enjoying nature at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, 6400 N. Oceanshore Blvd. at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27. Experience beautiful gardens, live music, and children's performances. $5 cash per car park entrance fee. Environmentally oriented exhibitors will be on hand, as well as various vendors. The extensive park plant bench will be selling a wide variety of Florida friendly plants for guests to plant in their gardens. Several nature programs will help inform guests about Florida fauna and a kids’ section with live animals will be featured. The event will be hosted by the Friends of Washington Oaks Gardens.
