Ormond Beach country artist Kaleb Lee, who starred on Season 14 of The Voice, has released his first single, titled "Cooler Weather."
The song was made available to download and stream on April 19, and Lee will be recording a music video this summer. He will also be performing across the country on the "Cooler Weather" tour, sponsored by Corona.
"Cooler Weather" mentions Daytona Beach in its chorus. According to a press release, his run on The Voice was successful due to the local community and its support. Kelly Clarkson continues to support him since his top 6 finish on the show.
Seabreeze High School sophomore Seth Augustynowski placed third overall at the 52nd-annual Easter Beach Run on Saturday, April 20. The 16-year-old finished the four-mile race with a time of 24 minutes and 17 seconds.
AdventHealth Daytona Beach recognized its many volunteers by hosting a luncheon during Volunteer Appreciation Week.
Volunteers John McCarthy and LeeAnn Cole were presented with special awards. McCarthy has accumulated 5,000 hours of volunteering, and Cole has contributed 10,000 hours. Dottie Welcher was also awarded a Lifetime Member Award, as she started volunteering with the hospital when it was located in the city of Ormond Beach.
Welcher has volunteered for a total of 53 years, joining volunteer Norma MacDonald.
The Saint Brendan Catholic School in Ormond Beach held its sixth-annual hair donation event on April 16, where seven students, a mother, a teacher and a former student each donated at least 8 inches of hair for Hair We Share.
Hair We Share is an organization that makes wigs for people suffering from hair loss due to disease. Salon 316 owner Kathleen Zimmerer and fellow stylist Charlynn heled to cut and style the donors' hair. A bake sale by the Ambassador Club was also held during the event, with all proceeds going toward Hair We
Share.
The school holds this event during Lent, a time of sacrifice in the Catholic Church.
Isabella Ward has been selected as one of the dancers in Steven Spielberg's upcoming movie remake of "West Side Story."
Ward, a Spruce Creek High School graduate, was picked from an estimated 30,000 people who auditioned. She will be one of the sharks. According to a press release, the movie will feature a cast made up of stars Ansel Elgort as Tony, Rachel Zegler as Maria, Mike Faist as Riff, and Ariana DeBose as Anita.
