About 1,000 people gathered at the Palm Coast Arts Foundation’s outdoor stage and entertainment area in Town Center for the 12th-annual Picnic and Pops concert on Sunday, April 14.

Golf tournament supports cancer services at AdventHealth Palm Coast

The Grand Reserve Ladies Golf Association’s second-annual golf tournament on April 12 raised over $1,000 to support the Judith C. Macko Cancer Resource Center at AdventHealth Palm Coast, according to a press release.

The money will support the AdventHealth Palm Coast Foundation’s breast cancer fund, which provides mammograms and other diagnostic services to qualified women in Flagler community.

“There are very few of us that cancer does not touch,” Judy Barefoot, tournament chairwoman, said in the release. “We are glad our contribution stays local and is able to support other women in our community.”

Adams, Cameron & Co. celebrates 1 year in Palm Coast

With more than 300 agents at nine different locations through Flagler and Volusia counties, the Adams, Cameron & Co. staff celebrated its one-year anniversary of the Palm Coast location, at 20 Airport Road, suite B2, on Wednesday, April 24.

Knights of Columbus donates to Education Foundation

Knights of Columbus Star Council 10514 presented a check in the amount of $406 to the STUFF Bus (Supplying Things U Find Fundamental) of the Flagler County Education Foundation, according to a press release.

The program provides essential supplies and clothing to students and their families experiencing economic difficulties. Supplies include things such as new and ‘almost new’ used clothing, jackets, hygiene products, shoes, undergarments and school supplies. This program allows recipients to focus on their educational needs.

Rymfire Elementary School celebrated student authors and illustrators with a medal award ceremony on Wednesday, April 24. This project program was funded through an Flagler Education Foundation grant received by second-grade teacher Robin Jaques. The competition was open to all students and a total of 30 awards for each category were presented.

The following seven students actually received both medals for their writing and illustrations of their books: Kendall Willis, Peyton Cerasi, Abby Simms, Kadyn Davis, Siena Bailey, Jacynda Vargas and Natalie Cruz.

AAEA awards entrepreneurship scholarship

Victor Torrao, a graduating senior at Matanzas High School, is Flagler County's Class of 2019 first student recipient of the African American Entrepreneurs Association's $500 Entrepreneurship Scholarship, according to a press release.

The AAEA Scholarship Program offers a $500 scholarship to provide financial and personal support focused on helping scholars succeed in college, and in life. AAEA Scholars are selected because they embody the principles and values of our core mission and goals: strength of character, leadership potential, commitment to serving their communities, academic performance or promise and entrepreneurial mindset.

Members of the Flagler All County Chorus sang at the Art Exhibition and Show on Friday, April 26, at the Palm Coast Community Center. Guests were also able to enjoy everything from wood carvings to paper creations, as about 100 pieces of locally-created art were on display.

Beach cleanup collects 70 bags of trash

Never fear, the “Preposterous Plastic Pollution Patrol” was here. The group, made up of Old Kings Elementary School students, held a beach cleanup starting at the Flagler Beach Pier on Friday, April 26.

The group was joined by Flagler Beach Mayor Linda Provencher and Flagler Beach Parks and Recreation director Tom Gillin along with John Fischer. The group collected about 70 large trash bags of trash.

Supervisor of Elections Lenhart receives Civil Libertarian of the Year award

The Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union awarded their local Supervisor of Elections the Bob Stevenson Award for Outstanding Service, during its 2019 annual meeting and awards dinner on Sunday, April 28, at the Halifax River Yacht Club in Daytona Beach, according to a press release.

Flagler County Supervisor of Elections Kaiti Lenhart and Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis have been recognized as the “Civil Libertarians of the Year” by the ACLU for their proactive efforts to inform and allow newly eligible citizens to register to vote after the Voting Restoration Amendment 4 went into effect on Jan. 8, 2019, in Florida.
