Coupon heist

2:11 p.m. — 1000 block of North U.S. 1

Fraud. A convenience store clerk was fired after he allowed a customer to use a screenshot of a cigarette coupon a total of 3,313 times over a period of three weeks. Apparently, the clerk told police that the customer told him he could use the coupon however many times he liked because he had "something like a savings account" with the cigarette company.

Police reported that the customer, whose identity is unknown, kept coming in the store late at night and purchasing various items. Though the coupon was for $2.50 off a pack of brand name cigarettes, the customer was using it for other random items, including lotto tickets, energy drinks and beer, according to the report. Video surveillance of two of the purchases also showed the customer giving the clerk a scratch-off ticket he had "purchased."

The convenience store loss prevention officer told police the store would prosecute charges. The police report states the store was tricked out of $8,282 worth of merchandise.

'Get off my lawn'

5:09 p.m. — First block of Lochwind Lane

Information. An 8-month old dog spurred an argument between two neighbors when one threatened to shoot the dog and the man if they ever got on his lawn again.

The man reported the threat to police, saying that he had been watching his daughter ride her bike around the street when their dog got out. The dog then chased after his daughter, so the man got on his own bike to get the dog back inside. The 56-year-old neighbor told police that he saw the dog by a flower bed in his yard, and that he told the man to put the dog on a leash because it was the law.

In response, the man told the neighbor to "Be nice," according to the police report. The man said he was training his dog for his blind wife, and the neighbor told him to train the dog with a leash. The neighbor denied ever threatening to shoot the dog, and said he didn't even own a gun.

Police advised both parties to stay away from each other.

Bittersweet

6:06 p.m. — 2000 block of Lipizzan Trail

Information. A 63-year-old Ormond Beach resident accused his ex-wife of putting sugar in the gas tank of his lawn mower due to having a scheduled court date at the end of the month. The man said that after his lawn mower stopped working, he stuck a stint in the tank, pulled it out, licked it, and that "it tasted sweet."

Police report that as the officer was getting the man's statement, the man was mocking the officer and speaking poorly of the police department. The reporting officer noted that it was difficult to speak with the man because of the mocking and insults. While at the scene, the officer saw the man successfully start the lawn mower twice, according to the report.

The officer gave the man his card, and the man told him "You can leave now." The officer then left.
