Man arrested for stealing over $200 worth of meat

Aug. 1

A shopping cart full of drugs

2:46 p.m. — 1100 block of Dunlawton Avenue

Illegal possession of shopping cart. Two men were arrested after they were seen pushing a local retail store’s shopping cart on the sidewalk of Dunlawton Avenue. They were additionally charged for possession of methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia. 

Both men were pushing the cart with luggage inside, according to the report. They both told police someone left them in Port Orange and they were left on the side of the road with their luggage. Then, they found the shopping cart on the side of the road and used it. 

During a search police found methamphetamine and a glass pipe, according to the report. A lock box container, five cell phones and a tablet were also found during the search. 

Both men were arrested and taken to jail. 

Aug. 3

Beer run

8:37 a.m. — 3600 block of Nova Road

Retail theft. A 59-year-old man was arrested after he selected a 24-pack of Natural Ice Beer from a local gas station and walked out the front doors. Another customer saw what happened and chased after the man, according to the report. 

The man was arrested for retail theft and trespassed from the store. He told police he stole the beer because he wanted to drink with a friend, according to the report. A criminal history check showed two prior convictions from 1987 and 2018 for retail theft. The man was also on probation for burglary. 

The man was additionally charged with violation of probation and taken to jail. 

Aug. 9

Stuck in the Median

7:50 p.m. — Intersection of Dunlawton Avenue and City Center Parkway

Driving with suspended license. A 31-year-old man was arrested for having a suspended drivers license after police responded to his disabled vehicle in the median. A BB gun was also located in a lunch box during a search. 

When the officer arrived, he observed the man’s vehicle stuck in the median. It had struck a tree. The man told police he swerved off the road during heavy rain to avoid hitting a car, according to the report. 

The man was arrested and taken to jail. 

Aug. 13

Stolen Meat

5:46 p.m. — 3800 block of Nova Road

Petit theft. A 52-year-old man went to a local grocery store to pick up his medications and ended up getting arrested for stealing over $200 in meats. The man was found to have three other convicted retail thefts on his criminal history report. 

The man filled a shopping bag full of meat and seafood before exiting without paying, according to the report. He told police he came to get his medication filled and was hungry, but had no money due to rough times. 

The man was arrested and taken to jail.
