Former Mainland football player Nathaniel "Tank" Dell announced via Twitter that he received a scholarship offer from the University of South Florida, a Division I program. Dell, who graduated from Mainland High School in 2018, is currently playing football at Independence Community College. Dell caught 6 passes for 148 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Pirates' 48-29 win over Dodge City on Saturday, Aug. 24, which prompted the offer from USF. He also returned 2 kickoffs for 87 yards.
Seabreeze and Mainland's volleyball teams met for the first time this season on the night of Thursday, Aug. 22, at Mainland High School. The Buccaneers dominated their rival, winning the match in straight sets.
Mainland's girls cross country team competed in the eighth-annual Spikes and Spurs Classic on Aug. 24 in Bunnell. The Buccaneers had three runners finish in the top 100: Madelyn Bronson (40th) had a time of 22:30.40, Grace Hawryluk (46th) had a time of 22:44.70, and Molly Bronson (91st) had a time of 24:22.80.
Seabreeze's volleyball team didn't win a game during the 2018 season. And although they have struggled four games into their 2019 schedule, the Sandcrabs were able to pull away with a win against Pine Ridge on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Pine Ridge High School. The Sandcrabs defeated the Panthers in straight sets.
Former Mainland football player Jacob Tilghman went from a walk-on to a scholarship player at the University of Florida on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Tilghman, a redshirt senior at UF, announced via Twitter that he was awarded a scholarship after he won the starting long snapper job for the Gators. "It’s been a long time coming but I wouldn’t change what I’ve been through for anything! Stay on your grind and you’ll get what you’re working for!" he wrote in a tweet.
