Millennium Bistro has been offering Brazilian cuisine since it opened on 5 Utility Drive, Palm Coast, four months ago.

Karla and Alex Martins, the restaurant’s co-owners, came to Palm Coast looking for a place quieter than Rio de Janeiro to raise their two children, and also found a place where Portuguese- and Brazilian-American residents craved the dishes they used to find served at eateries back home.

While the couple had opened Millennium Grocery two years ago to supply the community with the raw goods necessary for recreating those dishes, they decided to create Millennium Bistro to provide them in a restaurant environment.

“People can get things here they can’t get at any other place,” Karla Martins said.

Low prices for meals with large portions, for instance—much of the menu outside of the house specials is under $10.

Among Millennium Bistro’s selection of Brazilian-Portuguese fusion dishes, Martins said customer favorites seem to be the bitoque (Portuguese-style steak with an egg), the vicanha and the various Cuban bread sandwiches. Martins also makes brigadeiro cakes for special occasions.

While business in Palm Coast has had a slower start than it would have in a metropolis like Rio de Janeiro, Martins says they have been gaining many regular customers within and without the Brazilian-Portuguese community.

“When people come here,” she said, “they always come back.”
