Ormond Beach Police reported that witnesses saw the driver, 61-year-old Kevin Zoeckler, of Ormond Beach, step out of his car and look at the victim before getting back in his car and driving away. The victim was identified as Kenneth Daniel Strickler. He had been tried to cross West Granada Boulevard from the

Zoeckler drove into the Wawa parking lot at 600 W. Granada Blvd., where he was spotted by a Volusia Bureau of Investigations detective. OBPD officers responded to the scene and made contact with Zoeckler, who told them he had hit someone on a scooter, according to the police report. He told officers that he wasn't leaving the scene of the accident, that he was going back, and "I just don't know what to do at the moment," the police report details.
