Graffiti woes

8:49 p.m. — 400 block of South Yonge Street

Vandalism. Police are investigating the vandalism of an electrical pole near a local restaurant where the words "Death to America" were painted, along with an "odd-looking" object painted below it, according to an incident report.

One restaurant waitress told police that this was not the first time the pole had been vandalized; it happened recently in the past. Police searched for surveillance cameras but were unable to find any. Photos were submitted to OBPD for evidence.

All about the wheels

7:16 p.m. — 100 block of Bosarvey Drive

Loitering. Two men surrounded by five different bicycles told police that they were test-driving them "to see which one rode better." However, police later found out the bikes were stolen.

Police arrived at the scene after residents called in to report that the men had been loitering in the street for about 20 minutes with the bikes. The officers noticed the men were both sitting in the grass taking the bikes apart. The men said a couple of the bikes were theirs, and the other three belonged to their friend who lived down the street. But, they couldn't provide police with an address for their "friend," or a name.

Further conversation made the police officers more suspicious, especially when the men changed their stories and said they had found the bikes in various locations around town. Police found pills in one of the man's pockets and stolen groceries in the other man's backpack. Two of the bikes were returned to their owners.

Both men were taken to jail.

Fueling the... grass?

5:39 p.m. — 400 block of Black Oak Lane

Information. A 50-year-old Ormond Beach man suspected his neighbor poured diesel fuel near a cable junction box in his yard and wanted police to check it out since he was afraid the fuel would contaminate his lemon tree.

The reporting officer made contact with firefighters as he approached the home, and the firefighters told him that there did seem to be a small amount of diesel on the cable box and grass, but not enough to be hazardous, according to the incident report. The Ormond Beach man told the officer that he knew his neighbor did it, as they have had issues with each other for the last year or so.

Police noted that the fuel was more in the neighbor's yard than the man's. The man told police that his neighbor poured the fuel to spite him because he missed a patch of grass on his neighbor's side of the cable box while mowing this morning, police reported.

The neighbor told police that he indeed poured a mixture of diesel and water to the grass to "kill it" and keep it from growing, as that area is never cut. Police determined no crime was committed, since the diesel was poured in the neighbor's own yard.
