Flagler County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputy Christopher Alecrim was notified by administrators at Flagler Palm Coast High School that two students were having an Instagram conversation that became threatening.
The deputy spoke to the victim in the conversation who stated that the messages took place on the night of Monday, Dec. 2. The suspect, a 16-year-old boy, threatened to beat the victim and his parents and put a knife to the victim’s throat. He also threatened to put the victim in a grave. The argument began due to a disagreement over NFL football teams.
The suspect was absent from school on Tuesday, Dec. 3, but was located at his residence. Deputies interviewed him and he admitted to sending the messages. He was then taken into custody.
“A disagreement over NFL teams should never lead to threatening to kill someone else,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “It is time that children know that there are consequences to their actions and what they say on social media is permanent. We have a zero tolerance policy for threats in Flagler County. Parents, I again implore you to talk to your children.”
The suspect was placed under arrest for written threats to kill, a felony under Florida State Statute 836.10.
He was taken to the Flagler County Jail for processing and then taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Daytona Beach.
