Anthony Wild, of Kids Rock the Nation, presented several musical instruments recently to John Dupuis, musical director for Volusia County Schools at Fields BMW of Daytona, 1050 N. Tomoka Farms Road. The automobile dealership is a sponsor for the organization, which donates musical instruments to children in need as well as to schools for students whose parents can't afford them.

Magic of Lights donates funds
A portion of the proceeds generated from Magic of Lights, the drive-through holiday lights show Nov. 22 thru Jan. 1 at Daytona International Speedway, will support the AdventHealth facilities in Volusia and Flagler counties. From Dec. 2-8, AdventHealth will donate all of the funds they receive to the Volusia County School District.

Halifax Health, DSU announce scholarships
Halifax Health and Daytona State College announced a new sponsorship agreement in a ceremony Dec. 4 that will provide $500,000 in scholarship funding for DSC students in nursing and health-related fields and guarantee post-graduate employment for all scholarship recipients. Students may begin applying for the scholarship in the spring term.
In recognition of the agreement, the college will rename its softball stadium the Halifax Health Softball Stadium for a term of 25 years and designate Halifax as the “Official Healthcare Provider of Daytona State College Athletics” for five years.
Jeff Feasel, Halifax Health president and CEO, said the program, Education to Employment, is a great way for the health system to build a sustainable pipeline of care givers and increase the economic vitality of the area.
All scholarship recipients will be selected by Daytona State College and may be either full- or part-time students, according to a press release. They must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be a resident of Volusia, Flagler or Brevard counties. Scholarship recipients must enter into a separate agreement with Halifax or a Halifax affiliate regarding future employment.
Top award named for Hyatt Brown
The Daytona Regional Chamber has announced that the annual Enterprise Award will now be named the J. Hyatt Brown Enterprise Award. It’s the most prestigious business award, a press release stated, recognizing a company that has made significant contributions to the quality and growth of the community.
Nancy Keefer, president and CEO of the Chamber, said re-naming the award is a long overdue tribute to Brown and a small way to say thank you for choosing to invest in the community.
This year’s J. Hyatt Brown Enterprise Award will be presented to Team Volusia, a public/private not-for-profit corporation, that recruits business to Volusia County.
