A storm that may be classified as a tornado by the National Weather Service caused significant damage before dawn on Saturday, Dec. 14, from south of Bunnell to the Gamble Rogers area of Flagler Beach.
Flagler County Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord started making assessments at daybreak in Korona based on damage reports received and is still in the field as of 9:45 a.m.
“There is significant damage to trees and power lines, as well as some homes,” he said. “The National Weather Service is in route to do a formal storm survey, and to rate and confirm that this was a tornado.”
A home on Trojan Way – located directly behind the White Eagle in Korona – lost its roof and had its windows blown in. The county has requested the assistance of the American Red Cross to meet the needs of the household.
Other homes reported damage on Creek Bluff Run off John Anderson Highway. Minor to moderate damage was confirmed on Plantation Oak, Deer Run, Falling Waters and Fairchild Oaks. Multiple damages within Flagler Beach have been reported and are pending assessment.
