The 2019 Semi-Annual Uniform Crime Report from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement shows that crime continues to fall across Florida. The report shows Florida’s crime rate dropped by 6.1% in the first six months of 2019 compared to the first six months of 2018. Flagler County’s crime rate has dropped almost three times the state average by dropping 15.1%.
The crime statistics for the jurisdiction of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office have decreased significantly. Total Index Crimes are down 11% from the same time period in 2018. Aggravated assault is down 9.8%, larceny is down 17.8% and burglary is down 10.9%.
In all of Florida, Flagler County has the fourth largest drop in crime in counties with a population over 100,000. Charlotte, Lee and Palm Beach counties saw the largest drop.
“Our initiatives are working and these numbers prove that,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “We have a strong focus on district and guardianship policing and our deputies get to know what should and shouldn’t be present in their patrol areas. Added to that is our increasing use of technology that gives our deputies the tools they need in the field to be effective and efficient. All of this together, along with an outstanding and dedicated team, has led to this dramatic reduction in crime for our community. Our agency also has huge support from the community using if you ‘see something, say something’ to partner with us.”
Overall, both violent and property crimes are down. The Semi-Annual Uniform Crime Report calculates crime volume. The report, including county-by-county breakdowns, can be found on FDLE’s website at http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/FSAC/UCR/2019/2019SA_County_and_Municipal_Offense_Report.aspx.
FDLE began tracking crime statistics in 1971.
