A pancake breakfast at Aunt Catfish's On the River helped to raise funds on Saturday, Feb. 16, for a local nonprofit that focuses on mentoring young girls.
King's Daughters United, formed in 2014 by founder Jasmine Rabinowitz, helps give girls a judgement-free space to express themselves as well as surrounds them with supportive group of women.
“Sometimes young women don’t feel listened to or understood, and we want them to feel like they have someone to talk to,” Rabinowitz said.
Rabinowitz recalled how this experience impacted her life.
“I’ve certainly been blessed with the relationships I’ve had with the girls and to see how they can flourish," she said. "I feel like it’s my mission, as a woman, to speak life into the next generation by giving them our friendship.
King’s Daughters United offers two different types of programs. The “Wholly Me” program is a structured small group program where girls are taught how to find their identity in the Lord, social media etiquette, forgiveness and goal planning. For girls who are uncomfortable in group settings that need a more individualized approach, one-on-one mentorship is offered. The pancake breakfast raised $5 per meal ticket, with the option of purchasing $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win gift cards.
